When Sam Mendes announced that he would not be returning for the next James Bond movie, there were a lot of very disappointed people, as many felt that Sam did a great job with the last film. Fortunately Mendes has since had a change of heart and is already working on the new James Bond film, which seems to be going very nicely.
Actor Daniel Craig will return to reprise his role as James Bond for the new film and it seems that he has been impressing Sam Mendes with his recent stage work. Sam says that he has been to see Daniel on stage and was so impressed by his acting range that it has actually inspired him to have a little rethink about what he can do with the character.
Mendes explained, "I went to see Daniel Craig in Betrayal and I was reminded what a fantastic actor he is outside of James Bond. It inspires you to think of other ways to use him and allow him to express that. Ralph Fiennes is another great example."
As for the current state of the script for the James Bond 24 movie, which is currently untitled, Sam Mendes says that things are coming together nicely. One of the key things about the script though, is making sure that there are no holes in it, something that Sam has been working hard on.
Mendes added, "The next one – it’s being written... It’s ongoing. For me, so much of it is about script. It’s like the building of a boat – once the boat gets on the current, it’s gone. If there’s a hole in the boat, you’re f**ked. So you’ve got to make sure there’s no holes in the boat, and that’s what we’re doing now."
James Bond 24 is currently set to open on October 23, 2015 in the UK, before then hitting the big screen in the US on November 6.
