Hollywood superstar Daniel Day-Lewis has been nominated for the Best Actor Oscar at this year's Academy Awards and is seen by many as the favourite to win. If Daniel does manage to pick up the gong, it would make him the first ever actor to win three Best Actor Oscars.

Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln
Day-Lewis gave a phenomenal performance in his lead role in Lincoln and, while he does face stiff competition, he deserves to make it three Best Actor Oscars. Daniel previously won the award for My Left Foot back in 1989 and for There Will Be Blood in 2007.
While many people are expecting Daniel Day-Lewis to make Oscar history, the man himself is a little less certain. Daniel says that he would be surprised if the Academy made such an obvious choice, “Members of the academy love surprises, so about the worst thing that can happen to you is if you've built up an expectation.”

Daniel Day-Lewis with his Lincoln look
Daniel Day-Lewis is up against Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook), Joaquin Phoenix (The Master), Hugh Jackman (Les Misérables) and Denzel Washington (Flight) for the Best Actor Award. You can find out who does win the Best Actor Oscar, when The 85th Academy Awards takes place on February 24.
