Daniel Day-Lewis wins the Best Actor Oscar for his brilliant performance as Abraham Lincoln in 'Lincoln'. He was up against a tough field of competitors, but there was really no competition; everyone knew when Daniel Day-Lewis first announced to play Lincoln, he would be up for an Oscar in a couple years' time.

There were rumors of Hugh Jackman and Bradley Cooper gaining momentum at different points during the Oscar race, especially during the Oscar luncheon when Day-Lewis didn't show up, but that all turned out to be just speculation. After all, when Daniel Day-Lewis gets announced as a nominee, other nominees generally throw in their hats and watch from the sidelines.
This marks Daniel Day-Lewis' third Oscar win, becoming the first actor to achieve the distinction of winning three Best Actor Oscars. It's a landmark achievemement, but then again, Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the best actors of his generation.

He hasn't announced yet what his next project will be, but many are predicting that he will take a break for a while. There's nothing in development for him either, and he has remained close-lipped when asked about what he will be doing next.
