It has been confirmed that Manchester United and Scotland midfielder Darren Fletcher is set to take an extended break from the game, as he looks to fight a serious stomach illness. Darren is suffering from ulcerative colitis, a chronic inflammatory bowel condition and has been given medical advice to take an extended break until he has fully recovered from the illness.
A statement read, "Darren's continued desire to play and his loyalty to both club and country has probably compromised the chances of optimising his own health and fitness. We request that his privacy is respected and hope that the removal of the additional stress associated with speculation regarding his health will also aid his recovery."
The last game that Darren Fletcher played was in the Champions League match against Benfica back on November 22, a game in which he scored in. Darren will have to take a break to help him fully recover and also due to the drugs that he will need to take to combat the illness. The 27 year old signed a new four year contract earlier this year that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2015. We wish Darren Fletcher a full and speedy recovery.
