When it wan announced that legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson had decided to retire as manager of Manchester United, there were some awfully big shoes left to fill. That task eventually went to David Moyes and it was expected that the manager would be given time to work his magic, as it has been clear that Manchester United are going through a transitional period.
However, after just 10 months in charge at Old Trafford David Moyes has been sacked as Manchester United manager and the search for a new boss is now underway. While fans have been calling for Moyes head for some time now, it seems that the decision will come as a surprise to a number of former Manchester United players.
Back in February of this year, David Beckham stated, "I think that David Moyes is a great manager, but it takes time. You know he’s joined a club like Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, and there’s a transitional period."
Meanwhile, just last month Eric Cantona said, "I think Moyes signed because he has a long-term project. I think he is strong enough to handle the pressure," while Roy Keane also added, "I think United will be all right and David Moyes will get plenty of time. The man deserves it. He’s got vast experience, but his staff and a couple of senior players, they have to step up to the plate."
It has since been confirmed that Ryan Giggs will now take on the managerial duties for the remaining games of the current season, before a new boss is employed in the Summer, with plenty of names being linked to the job.
Who do you think will be the next Manchester United manager?
