David O. Russell has nothing but praise for his latest leading lady, the charming and self-effacing Jennifer Lawrence.
Speaking to WWD at the New York premiere of Silver Linings Playbook, Russell said, “Jennifer is real. She’s like a girl that could live next door to you, but she’s also that girl that could knock you out. She’s intense, she’s confident, she’s emotional and she’s very available. It all reads on her face. She’s the kind of girl who could fix your car and then clean up and dance your ass off.”
Apparently critics agree – almost every review on Rotten Tomatoes is quick to praise Lawrence’s comedic and emotional turn as the slightly imbalanced Tiffany. However, according to her, the film almost didn’t get completed – but she says they have Bradley Cooper to thank for finishing it on time: “If Bradley weren’t there, the movie would’ve never been made. One time, we were running late, way over schedule, and Bradley was trying to find David and I. [He found us] making videos on my phone, pretending we were wiping our butts with coffee on paper towels, and making videos of it. Bradley was like, ‘Guys, we gotta go get this shot,’ and we were like, ‘yeah, alright Bradley.’”
There’s no doubt that Lawrence is charming, and that might be in her favor come awards season – most critics are singling her out as the frontrunner for the Best Actress Oscar and at the age of 22, Lawrence will not only have been one of the youngest actresses to be nominated twice, but also one of the youngest actresses to win.
