David Thewlis has finished shooting for the role of Mickey Finn in the upcoming thriller, Eliza Graves. The movie, adapted from the Edgar Allan Poe short story, The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether, follows the experiences of Edward Newgate, a recent Harvard graduate played by Jim Sturgess, as he begins his new job at a mysterious mental institution.
The film previously ran into some trouble when Oren Peli (of Paranormal Activity fame) fell out of the director spot to focus more on his production work. Now directed by Brad Anderson (The Machinist) and written by Joseph Gangemi, the film finished shooting in late 2013 and has now entered post-production.
David Thewlis will be starring alongside a stellar cast that includes Michael Caine, Ben Kingsley, and Kate Beckinsale, who plays the titular character, Eliza Graves. The crew spent 2013 flying in and out of Bulgaria, where the movie was shot. The film was produced by Icon Productions, the same organization that brought us Mel Gibson’s Edge of Darkness (2010).
The film, which combines elements of romance and horror, is set to be released sometime in 2014. So, what’s next for the musician turned actor? The Korean War drama, Queen and Country, has him set to play the role of Bradley, though no details have yet been given on his character.
