When you are an actor or actress, no matter where you are in the world, when you play the same role in the same project for so many years, it can often be difficult to pull yourself away from that character when playing a new role in a new project. That certainly seems the case for actress Deborah Ann Woll, who has become best known for playing the role of Jessica in True Blood.
With True Blood now over and done with for good, Deborah Ann Woll is moving on to other projects and we will soon see her playing the role of Karen Page in the upcoming Marvel series Daredevil, which will air on Netflix. Deborah has now opened up about playing Karen in Daredevil and has admitted that there were often times when she would think about what Jessica would do.
Woll explained, "I'm already starting to notice huge differences between the two characters [in True Blood and Daredevil]. That's already kind of exciting to play. I can feel myself go, 'Oh, if this was Jessica she would do this,' but wanting to kind of steer differently than that. It's always going to be me in some way. I think, as an actor, that's part of it. You have to bring some of yourself to it, and that's why you have to revisit roles over and over again, so you can see different people bring themselves to the part."
She added, "So it's always going to feel a little bit similar because it will always be a piece of me, but I can choose to respond differently or play things closer to the chest. It's been a really interest experience, actually, stepping outside of Jessica. It feels sort of weird. Jessica was like an old pair of jeans. I knew every rip, every stretched out spot. It just fit me just right after so many years. Karen, it's going to take a little bit of time, but I'm starting to figure out how to I fit into those clothes."
Daredevil is one of a number of new series that Marvel is creating for Netflix and it will see Deborah Ann Woll starring alongside the likes of Elden Henson, Vincent D'Onofrio, Rosario Dawson, Roberto Lopez, Peter Shinkoda, Dean Neistat, and of course Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil. There is no official date yet on when Daredevil will hit Netflix but it is expected to release sometime in 2015. We cannot wait.
