It has been reported that Disney are pushing ahead with a live action Beauty and the Beast movie, which is set to be titled The Beast. This comes off the back of previously huge live action successes, such as Alice in Wonderland, which grossed over $1bn, and Oz the Great and Powerful, which has already made $150m since its release last week.

Oz the Great and Powerful is already proving successful
This has pushed Disney into action, as they continue to bring their classic fairly tales to life. Not only are they now pushing ahead with The Beast but they already have some other projects in the works, such as Maleficent and Cinderella.
Disney have brought Joe Ahearne, who most recently wrote the script for the Danny Boyle movie Trance, on board to pen the screenplay for The Beast. This will likely give us another two movie battle of the same story, as Warner Bros. are also working on a Beauty and the Beast movie of their own.

A former look at the beast
As for this Disney adaptation, those of you who are familiar with the work of Joe Ahearne will realise that The Beast is likely to be a much darker take on the classic tale. As for the rest of the team, Mandeville’s David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman will produce The Beast with Disney’s LouAnne Brickhouse.
It will be interesting to see whether Disney wait to receive a finished script from Joe Ahearne, before bringing a director on board and casting the lead roles.
