Eddie Redmayne is currently spending his time alternating between awards promotion and overseas promotion for ‘Les Miserables’, and he has a new interview that was conducted a recent screening of the film.
Eddie first talks about previously working with ‘Les Miserables’ director Tom Hooper on the Elizabeth I miniseries, in which he says, “After reading for Elizabeth I, I was stopped at the door and Tom asked if I could ride a horse and I said "yes." Next thing you know, I was in Lithuania with 40+ men galloping on horses. I'm in spurs on a huge stallion behind Helen Mirren, who's in a rather large, opulent dress. I thought to myself, "At what point do I admit I wasn't totally telling the truth?" Within a few moments, Tom picked up a big speaker and shouted, "Redmayne you're a bloody liar!" He jokes that Hooper didn’t believe he could sing when he auditioned for ‘Les Miserables’ due to their previous experience together, adding, “And so then during Les Misérables, he asked, "Can you actually sing?" And of course, somehow I ended up on a giant horse waving a huge flag [inLes Misérables]. [I'm] only assuming it was payback.”
Redmayne also talks about the more intimate aspects of ‘Les Miserables’, including what he felt to be the most intimate scene in the movie [Spoiler for the few people who haven’t seen the film]. He says, “During "A Little Fall of Rain," there were 100 dead people all around, Eponine was in my arms dying and a single drop of rain fell on her forehead. Singing at that level with no cameras in my face and no loud projecting -- just singing in a whisper -- felt odd but entirely raw.”
Due in large part to his brilliant performance as Marius in the film, Eddie has been gaining buzz and attention at a rate that he’s never dealt with before. Despite this, he seems as if he’s staying humble and focusing on the projects rather than the celebrity aspect of his career. He is rumored to have landed a major role in the Wachowski Brothers’ next film, ‘Jupiter Ascending’, with Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis attached to star as the leads. He’s also reportedly in the mix for the lead role in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, as well as the upcoming ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ adaptation.
