It looks like Marvel has started finalizing its shortlist of actors to appear in its upcoming ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. Guardians will still take place in the Marvel Universe, but instead of a team of superheroes fighting on Earth, it will be a team of alien superheroes who fight to protect the solar system from evil forces.

The role that is in contention is the lead role of Peter Quill – Quill is half human and half alien, and is the leader of the ‘Guardians’. After the ‘Avengers’ broke box office records and shot Chris Hemsworth to the top of the A-list, actors are starting to realize that Marvel movies may be a great way to gain a passionate fanbase and become a ‘movie star’.
Deadline reports that the main actors being considered for the role of Peter Quill include Lee Pace [Breaking Dawn: Part 2], Joel Edgerton [Great Gatsby], Eddie Redmayne [Les Miserables], and Jim Sturgess [One Day]. Other actors reportedly also in contention include Jack Huston, Garrett Hedlund, and James Marsden.

The Marvel Universe
Guardians of the Galaxy will be another addition to the ‘Avengers’ universe, which is currently being headed by Joss Whedon. It was reported that James Gunn would direct the movie, and it would be released August of 2014.
