There were a lot of excited Welsh people recently, when it was confirmed that Elijah Wood had been spotted out and about in Swansea. Elijah was in Swansea to film some scenes for his new, upcoming movie Set Fire to the Stars. With filming now complete, Elijah has opened up about shooting the scenes in Swansea, even though the movie is actually set in New York.
Wood explained, "Initially it was not meant to be shot in Swansea, it was meant to be Manchester. But it’s kind of perfect that it’s been shot here (in Swansea) but it’s weird in the sense that the movie takes place in New York, it was always going to be weird I suppose not shooting in New York."
For those of you who do not know much about Set Fire to the Stars, it is based on the book 'Dylan Thomas in New York', which was written by John Brinnin. Set Fire to the Stars takes place in early 1950s New York City as Brinnin brings his idol to America to do a speaking tour. But Brinnin soon realizes that one should never meet one's idol.
As well as starring Elijah Wood, the cast of Set Fire to the Stars also includes Kelly Reilly, Shirley Henderson, Maimie McCoy, Steven Mackintosh and Steve Speirs. Set Fire to the Stars in directed by Andy Goddard, who also had a hand in the script writing process for the movie along with Celyn Jones. Set Fire to the Stars is now in post-production and we are awaiting news of release dates. We will keep you posted.
