It was recently suggested that the people involved in the animal welfare on the set of The Hobbit had been mistreating the animals. Director Peter Jackson has since denied these claims and now, actor Elijah Wood has slammed the allegations.

Talking to TMZ, Wood declared, “That was the most ridiculous thing ever. It was really heartbreaking actually. I never saw any of those conditions when I was down there. All of the technicians and everyone who worked on the films takes the utmost care of the animals.”
Elijah then went on to claim that he found whole timing of the accusations very suspicious, considering how close it comes to the release of The Hobbit. He added, “The timing is so obvious as well. We're premiering the movie in less than a week.”

As well as Elijah Wood, The Hobbit features a number of familiar faces from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, including Orlando Bloom, Ian McKellan and Cate Blanchett. The Hobbit will also star a number of new faces, such as Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch and Evangeline Lilly. The Hobbit is released on December 14.
