E! is diving into the world of scripted television with 'The Royals', which also marks its first scripted TV show - ever. As such, they've managed to draw up a stellar star cast for the show, which will actually be based on a fictional royal family living in modern-day London.
Created by One Tree Hill writer and executive producer Mark Schwahn, the show will star Elizabeth Hurley, William Mosely, Noah Huntley, and several other well-known TV names. The official synopsis provided by E! reads, "Drama about a fictional British Royal family set in modern-day London, who inhabit a world of opulence and regal tradition that caters to any and every desire, but one that also comes with a price tag of duty, destiny and intense public scrutiny."
The show is currently filming, and will reportedly start airing sometime next year, either in the spring or summer. The show has enough of a hook that it will probably be a staple of E! scripted programming, and Hurley's attachment ensures that it will get broad international play. No doubt, the appeal tripled with such a strong cast, including Moseley - who's best known for the Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe franchise.
Much like One Tree Hill, this show has the possible ability to break in any of the newcomers, and create major TV stars out of them. The best known actor is definitely Elizabeth Hurley, and her upcoming film schedule shows that while she's devoted a huge chunk of time to this show, she also has a few films coming out. For example, she has both The Purgatory and The Wild Bunch coming out over the next two years, but it's likely that The Royals will get her the most exposure.
