There has been quite a lot of attention surrounding the Ellen Page passion project Freeheld over the past few months, with talk of filming being banned from a Catholic school due to the nature of the project. However, despite a few bumps here and there, Freeheld managed to get completed and is now preparing to be given an official released date around the world.

Ellen Page and Julianne Moore star in Freeheld
It was recently announced that Freeheld had been picked up by Lionsgate, who managed to acquire the rights after quite a long battle with a number of other production companies. Lionsgate went head to head with the likes of Sony Pictures Classics, Focus Pictures, and Netflix, before finally coming out on top and landing the distribution rights for a high seven-figure fee.
For those of you who are not familiar with the project, Freeheld tells the real life struggles of the late Laurel Hester and has been officially described as "New Jersey car mechanic Stacie Andree and her police detective girlfriend Laurel Hester both battle to secure Hester's pension benefits after she was diagnosed with a terminal illness."

Ellen Page is very passionate about the project
As well as starring Ellen Page, who shares top billing with Julianne Moore, the Freeheld supporting cast includes such names as Luke Grimes, Steve Carell, and Michael Shannon, among others. Freeheld has been directed by Peter Sollett, based on the screenplay developed by Ron Nyswaner, and we cannot wait to find out when the movie will finally hit the big screen.
Are you looking forward to seeing the new Julianne Moore and Ellen Page movie Freeheld when it gets released?
