Actress Emily Blunt, one of the stars of the Tom Cruise film "Edge of Tomorrow" was recently interviewed and she disclosed how challenging it was for all cast, crew and the numerous extras to survive the beach set used for the film. The set was built to replicate the battles of World War II such as the Battle of Dunkirk and because the weather was cold in England and running in sand is so difficult the cast, crew and extras devised a name for the set which they affectionately named "the Bitch".
Everyone on the set was running around in metal suits in the cold weather of England on sand and within it time it felt like a mission just to survive and complete the beach set filming of the movie.
The talented actress did make it through however even though her role almost led to her breaking her nose which would have delayed filming. In the science fiction movie she plays a legendary special forces officer who has killed an incredible number of the enemy known as mimcs during her time as a fighter. She is a mentor to Tom Cruise's confused hero character who in the course of fighting the enemy is caught in a time loop on his last day in the battle.
To prepare from this role she engaged in an intense three month preparation which included Krav Magna training, track running, and gymnastics to prepare her for the physical rigors of the movie which required her to fight and act while wearing metal battle armor and being held up by aerial wires.
Emily Blunt transformed her body for this role and in the process will likely help make this movie become a box office hit in 2014 and prove to Hollywood that she can be a star and thrive as an actress in any film genre.
