Eminem looks as if he has truly 'lost his mind'. That is the only way one can explain the lyrics in his most recent rap song release, "Shady Cxvpher" in which he raps that he would "punch Lana Del Rey in the face twice like Ray Rice". The words are misogynistic and bring back the issue of violence against women in a time when it has been made clear by endorsers and society, particularly in the United States that such thoughts, acts or words would not be accepted anymore and especially by a prominent public figure.
His lyrics have brought responses from rappers such as Azelia Banks who tweeted that she would punch him in his mouth (Music.mic - November 11) and several online media publications such as Huffington Post have written articles condemning his lyrics.
However, it is very likely that Eminem has not yet felt the wrath of society but he should count on it coming. Fans of the rapper should expect him to feel the effect in sales as he likely forgot that while some women buy his music it is the men who are either fathers or have sisters who might stop buying his music. He might as well forget about appearing on any late night television shows and it will be very difficult for him to get any sort of positive media attention because any mention of him having a concert will likely result in some group going back to his threatening comments toward Lana Del Rey.
Eminem's lyrics for his song were likely aimed to get attention and he can now be assured that he has the attention of the entertainment industry, their sponsors and music fans. Don't be surprised if he soon decides he does not like the attention or 'lack of attention' he receives because of his misogynistic, irresponsible lyrics. Words can hurt people and their careers and it will be a miracle if these words do not hurt his career in a major way in 2014.
