Emma Stone is making her first foray into the world of animation with a voice-over performance in ‘The Croods’. She plays Eep in the animated comedy set in the Stone Ages, set to release on March 22nd, 2013.

While this is Emma’s first full-fledged animation role, she does talk about her experience with ADR and how that differed from doing voice-over in this role. She explains to Flicks and Bits, “What I loved about playing Eep was when I first went in, I’d done a lot of ADR work on my movies like ‘Easy A,’ movies with narration, so I thought it was going to be like that – I’ll just read my lines and play the character in that way. Then I realised, as time went on, that there was so much physicality involved – you really are playing an animated character.”
She also talks about how her improve training finally helped her, adding, “That was the most ideal situation ever, because I come from improv and sketch comedy, I always want to go bigger and bigger and bigger. And with something like ‘The Croods,’ or a character like Eep, you can’t go “too big.”

In addition to doing promotion for ‘The Croods’, Stone has also just wrapped promotion for ‘Gangster Squad’, which is rounding out its international release. Although ‘Gangster Squad’ didn’t perform up to expectations at the box office, ‘The Croods’ is set to become one of the first animation hits of the year. Stone is also prepping for the ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’, which is set to begin shooting soon, as well as the untitled Cameron Crowe project with Bradley Cooper, and Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Crimson Peak’.
