There has been a lot of talk about the sexual inequality in Hollywood over the years and, over the past few months or so, many stars have been voicing their concerns at the amount of sexism that still exists in the acting industry. We have already heard from a number of stars, including the likes of Maggie Gyllenhaal and Dame Helen Mirren, with more to follow since.
The latest star to give their views on the sexism in Hollywood, is the British actress Emma Thompson, who has been in the acting industry for many years now, so has seen how things have changed over the years. Emma says that she once thought that things we moving in the right direction but, if she is being truthfully honest, sexism in Hollywood is worse than ever.
While speaking to Radio Times magazine, Thompson explained, "I don't think there's any appreciable improvement and I think that, for women, the question of how they are supposed to look is worse than it was even when I was young. So, no, I am not impressed, at all. I think it's still completely s**t, actually. When I was younger I really did think we were on our way to a better world and when I look at it now, it is in a worse state than I have known it."
She added, "Particularly for women and I find that very disturbing and sad. So I get behind as many young female performers as I can and actually a lot of the conversations with them are about exactly the fact that we are facing and writing about the same things and nothing has changed, and that some forms of sexism and unpleasantness to women have become more entrenched and indeed more prevalent."
As far as her own career is concerned, Emma Thompson is continuing to mix things up, with a number of acting roles in upcoming movies, as well as continuing to pen the occasional screenplay.
