The Emmy Awards took place last night and there were a few surprises thrown into the mix this year. Mad Men was up for an unbelievable 19 Emmys but only managed to go home with two, including a fourth consecutive Best Drama Series Emmy. While Modern Family managed to once again win the Best Comedy Emmy.
Meanwhile, Kate Winslett managed to pick up her first Emmy Award for her leading role in the miniseries Mildred Pierce. However, their rivals Downton Abbey managed to take home an impressive six Emmy Awards on the night. The Good Wife star Julianna Margulies managed to once again win the Best Dramatic Actress Emmy.
Then there were a couple more surprises as The Big Bang Theory actor Jim Parsons took home the Best Comedy Actor award, which most people expected to go to Steve Carell. Also Kyle Chandler from Friday Night Lights beat Steve Buscemi to Best Dramatic Actor, much to everyone’s surprise.
There were also wins for Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage for his impressive performances as Tyrion and an emotional Margo Martindale won her first ever Emmy for her supporting actress role in Justified, after spending over 20 years in the industry. Congratulations to those who won and commiserations to those who left empty handed.
