Eva Mendes has always been considered an incredibly attractive actress, but is she so attractive that directors shy away from working with her? According to Eva, they may have done that in the past.

While promoting 'The Place Beyond the Pines' with the Sun, Eva reveals that she thinks her looks may have been off-putting to some directors. Of her good looks, she says, "I don’t know if I’ve really suffered but it’s probably caused some directors and studios to shy away from me for certain roles. Being sexy is just one component of who I am — it’s a thing I can be. It’s a side of myself I can tap into, just like I can tap into my funny side, my quirky side or my dramatic side. It’s not what I am."
She adds, "I’m the only one who’s responsible for whatever image of myself I’ve put out there. This business often wants to sexualise women and I understand that, but at some point I got tired of being always thought of as ‘sexy’ and allowed that description to define the kind of work I was doing. That can be very limiting.”

She also discusses the 2001 film 'Training Day' which launched her career and in which she appears scantily clad. She admits that while her looks and body may have launched her career, she hopes to be viewed differently in the future. She's certainly viewed differently enough in Place Beyond the Pines, where she appears unadorned by makeup and has seemingly lost most of her curves.
