While most of the attention surrounding the Oscars is about the movies and the stars that are up for the awards on the night, as well as looking at the stars on the red carpet, there is also a lot of attention that goes on the host of the Academy Awards. The last few years at the Oscars has seen the ceremony be considered a bit of a flop due to the poor hosting skills involved.
For the past three years, the Oscars has been overshadowed, in terms of hosting, by the BAFTA's and the Golden Globes, with some very poor hosting. First there was the very dull presenting from James Franco and Anne Hathaway. It was then Eddie Murphy's turn but he quit an Billy Crystal took over and, while he was an improvement, he was still not great. Then came the worst Oscar host ever, Seth MacFarlane, who was worse than awful last year.
So, when it was announced that Ellen DeGeneres was going to host the 86th Academy Awards, it was felt that they were playing it a little bit safe, which has turned out to be a great decision. Ellen is an expert at what she does and there was no doubting that she would be able to cope with the pressures of being an Oscar host, as she has done it once before.
With the Oscars now over and done with, it is fair to say that Ellen DeGeneres has brought the Oscars back to the forefront of the awards ceremonies. Ellen's comedy timing was perfect, her off the cuff humor was spot on and she made everything feel comfortable and smooth flowing throughout the night. The pizza part alone was better than the past three Oscars put together. Congratulations Ellen DeGeneres, you really showed how hosting the Oscars should be done.
Who would you like to see hosting the Oscars 2015?
