There was once a time in Hollywood when being involved in a movie project was far more important that being involved in television work but things have now shifted in quite a big way. We are seeing more and more movie stars deciding to sign on to television projects these days and it seems that it is because of the impressive writing that is taking place.
One such movie star, who has now made the move to television, is Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry, who will appear in the upcoming television series Extant. Halle says that she found herself getting bored with the same movie roles and was excited by the female characters that were appearing on television.
Berry told Entertainment Weekly, "I was being offered parts that I felt like I had done before. They weren't exciting enough for me to leave my family for four months. I realised some of the best writing especially for women, was on television. The minute I started to read ['Extant'], I couldn't put it down. I thought, 'Wow. This is different.' It's innovative."
In the eagerly anticipated television series Extant, Halle Berry plays the role of Molly Woods, who is an infertile astronaut who returns from a space mission pregnant. Halle says that the fact that the character has such a complicated life is one of the main reasons that she was drawn to the role.
Berry added, "Molly is a strong female character, which I really love to play. Molly is a complicated woman with a complicated family Who is a woman who goes away to space for a year and leaves her husband, first of all? Who is a woman who comes back pregnant and tries to handle it somehow on her own? That just felt like a complication that I wanted to be a part of."
Extant will premiere on CBS on July 9 with a double episode.
