Fan support for Josh Hutcherson to play Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode 7

  • Josh Hutcherson linked to playing Luke Skywalker in Star Wars
  • Clevver TV has a new video up fancasting Hutcherson as Luke Skywalker
  • Issues with his age would rule him out
Josh Hutcherson is already a household name thanks to his roles in two huge franchises: Journey [to the Center of the Earth and to the Mysterious Island] as well as the Hunger Games.  Of course, most people know him as Peeta Mellark from Hunger Games, but will that help him gain another huge franchise: Star Wars?
Josh is often linked to big roles

Clevver TV has a new video up fancasting Hutcherson as Luke Skywalker in the next movie, which will be released in 2015.  Of course, we know next to nothing about the story at this point, except that it will take place after the sixth movie and will be featuring a completely original movie.  If they are indeed keeping the same characters from the original trilogy, and it’s soon after Episode 7, they’ll have to cast actors approximately the same age to what the actors were at the time of ‘Return of the Jedi’.  That shouldn’t prove to be too difficult, but the problem with Hutcherson is that he is still much too young to play Luke Skywalker after ‘Return of the Jedi’.

Right now, Hutcherson is 20 years old – in 2015, he will be 23.  This is still much younger than what Hamill was when he played Luke in Episode 6.  It would be fine if Hutcherson looked older, but he still looks his age [which incidentally, is not a problem his co-star Jennifer Lawrence has since she plays a 16 year old in the Hunger Games and then plays a late 20s widow in Silver Linings Playbook].

Overall, if Hutcherson were to be cast as Luke, they would have to do some serious explaining to why Luke de-aged between the sixth and seventh movie.  Or they could just not explain it – after all, Hutcherson is a huge draw at this point thanks to his rising popularity.  It wouldn’t be out of the question that they cast him and ignore the age problems.  It wouldn’t be the first time Hollywood did it.
Fans are super serious about the prospect
