With Scarlett Johansson as the lead female star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in her role as Black Widow, there was always going to be a call for a Black Widow standalone movie, with the actress making no secret about wanting it to happen. There have been plenty of rumours about a Black Widow film happening but we have yet to see or hear any progress on the project.
A Black Widow movie could be made

Marvel have made it clear over the past months, and even years, that they would love to try to get a Black Widow film off the ground, although they have yet to make any real moves on the idea. With that said, it seems that Avengers: Age of Ultron could be a good way of leading into a Black Widow movie, as we learn a lot more about the character in the film.

Marvel chief Kevin Feige has since added, "We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that."

This news has clearly got the comic book fans excited, with one delighted fan beaming, "This is possibly the greatest news that Marvel have given us yet. There is a real need for some strong female characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and while Scarlett Johansson has been great as Black Widow, it has only been in small roles. Giving Scarlett her own Black Widow movie is fantastic and I cannot wait to see it."

Well unfortunately you are going to have to wait to see it and it could actually be some time before we get anywhere near a Black Widow standalone movie. Marvel currently have so many movie projects on their slate, that adding a Black Widow film will likely come a lot later down the line. With the project only just really in development, we could have a very long wait before a Black Widow movie finally hits the big screen.
