When it comes to seeing the stars performing the national anthem in the US before a huge sports events, it seems that things can always go only one of two ways, either you are going to absolutely nail it and everyone is going to love it, or you are going to mess it up big time and everyone is going to hate it, there never really seems to be anything in between.
Anyway, former Black Eyed Peas star Fergie recently took to the basketball court to give her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner ahead of the NBA all-star game and, well, quite frankly she absolutely bombed. So many people all over the world have since seen this terrible rendition of the national anthem, with a huge amount of criticism going her way, leading to her responding to the critics.
Following the huge amount of criticism, Fergie has decided to release a statement about the performance, which reads, "I've always been honoured and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA. I'm a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn't strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best."
While it seems that the majority of people have been throwing criticism towards Fergie, which you cannot deny is fair since she was so bad, there is one person who has got her back. Mariah Carey understands the difficulties of performing the national anthem on the big stage and she has told Fergie to simply ignore the haters and be proud of herself. Easier said than done!
