There was a fury of rumors floating around the past week that mentioned that Ryan Gosling was the top choice for Fifty Shades of Grey lead character Christian Grey. The rumors were increased by reports being thrown around that E.L James’s husband (E.L. James is the author of Fifty Shades of Grey) was saying that ‘last he heard, Ryan Gosling was the top choice’.

When on an interview with Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, James went on record to clear up the rumor. She said, “What happened is that his local paper … called the Belfast Telegraph that reported on my husband being the inspiration for Christian Grey. Underneath it they put a picture of Ryan Gosling, as well. So, that’s how that came about,” she said.
James has also reportedly been saying that the studio is nearing the final shortlist for the lead actor and actress choices (Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele), and that we should be finding out really soon what these choices are. James has also said that the choices are not at all decided by her, and completely in control of who the studio wants (Universal is making the film). The frontrunners (mostly decided by fans) up until now have been Ryan Gosling for Christian Grey and Emma Watson for Anastasia Steele, but it is unlikely either actor will end up doing the role.
