Floyd Mayweather questions another Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez

Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez took to the ring with each other for the third time on Saturday night and for the third time, Maquez questioned the decision. In the past the fights were close and it was easy to see how a draw was given in the first fight and Pacquiao got the decision in the second.

However, on Saturday night, Juan Manuel Marquez seemed to have done more than enough to be given the decision but in a bizarre twist of fate, the judges awarded the win to Manny Pacquiao. Not a single person who watched the fight can understand how that decision was made, as Marquez seemed to be way ahead going into the last round.

That decision caused Bob Arum to come out and say that he is hoping to make a Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez IIII, scheduled for May. His reason for this was obvious. Money. Yet surely a fight against Floyd Mayweather would generate more? Now, Mayweather has questioned the need for another Pacquiao vs Marquez.

Mayweather explained, “Why? I mean, I truly feel that Marquez is never going to get the benefit of the doubt. I want to congratulate Marquez and I want to congratulate Pacquiao for doing it a third time, but I just feel like, if you get it done right the first time, there’s no need for a second or third fight. If it is needed, do it again in the same fashion and same way or do it even better.”

He added, “People fail to realise, when I faced Marquez, I was two years off, just travelling and vacationing. I took two years off, no working out, no other activities. I still went out there and performed and looked marvellous. When I fought Marquez, they said Marquez was over the hill. Remember, when I fought Marquez he was 36 and I was 32. Now two years later, Pacquiao is 32 and Marquez is 38.”

With Bob Arum looking to be dead set on making a Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez IIII, it seems that we will have to wait even longer for a Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather. Floyd has stated that he wants to fight Pacquiao in May but that looks highly unlikely now. Could it be that Bob Arum is worried about Pacquiao and is stalling in the hope that he will get to fight an over the hill Floyd Mayweather in a few years time? Whatever his reasons, don’t hold your breath for a Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao any time soon.
