We recently told you that there were plans to begin shooting Tron 3 later in the year and it now looks like things are moving along very nicely, as two of the stars from the last movie, Tron: Legacy have been confirmed to reprise their role for then new film. It has been announced that, as well as director Joseph Kosinski returning for Tron 3, we will also see Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund back for the film.
In Tron: Legacy, we saw Garrett Hedlund playing the role of Sam Flynn, the son of the Jeff Bridges character from the two Tron movies, while Olivia Wilde played the role of Quorra, the computer algorithm that Sam falls in love with. At the end of Tron: Legacy, we see Sam and Quorra returning to the real world, so it will be interesting to see where Tron 3 picks up from and if we return to the grid.
Meanwhile, there are still plenty more casting decisions that we are likely to hear over the coming weeks and months. It will be interesting to see whether we will get to see Jeff Bridges reprising his role as Kevin Flynn or Clu, or if Bruce Boxleitner will be back as Alan Bradley aka Tron. With the way Tron: Legacy ended it would be unlikely that these two would have big roles in Tron 3 but we are sure a cameo would be on the cards.
Tron 3 is expected to begin shooting in Vancouver in the Fall and is expected to have a release date sometime in late 2016 or early 2017, although this has yet to be confirmed. As for the title of the movie, some have suggested that it is going to be called Tron: Ascension but, again we are awaiting confirmation.
