Can't imagine Garrett Hedlund as a bad guy? Well, don't worry, you won't have to. Garrett Hedlund just landed the lead role of Captain Hook in the Joe Wright film 'Pan', but Hook's not a bad guy in this version of the movie. Pan is a prequel of sorts to the legendary Peter Pan story that we know of, and in this version, Hook and Peter Pan are allegedly friends.
Obviously, the studio seems to actually be planning sequels to Pan, and if everything works out, we'll probably get to see how this 'friendship' between Peter and Hook deteriorates and becomes the enmity we know of from the classic tale.
Apparently, this was a 'coveted' role, according to Deadline, and other actors in the mix [apart from Hedlund] were Ezra Miller and Jack Huston. Hugh Jackman reportedly also has a part to play Blackbeard, who's the so-called 'villain' of the story. According to the synopsis provided, "An orphan [Peter] is taken to the magical world of Neverland, where he becomes the savior of the natives and leads a rebellion against evil pirates."
Garrett Hedlund is probably best known for Tron: Legacy, but he's recently starred in On the Road and Inside Llewyn Davis, and he'll also be starring in a major supporting role in the Angelina Jolie directed film Unbroken. Although his future was a tad bit uncertain after Tron: Legacy didn't take off the way the studio expected, he's certainly bounced back from the disappointment.
