It was confirmed earlier this week that plans are in place to start pushing ahead with the third instalment of the Tron movie franchise. Tron: Legacy received mixed reviews from the critics but still managed to go on to gross almost $400m worldwide, which almost guaranteed another sequel.
Now, it has been confirmed that Garrett Hedlund, who played Sam Flynn in Tron: Legacy, is set to reprise the role for the third film. Garrett also stated that he was very excited about returning for the new Tron movie and that Disney were equally as excited.
While promoting the US release of On The Road in New York, Hedlund told NextMovie.com, “Yeah. Are we gonna break this now? Disney's very excited. That's about that. You know, yeah, I'm very excited, Disney's very excited.”
It is also expected that Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski will be returning to helm Tron 3, while Jesse Wigutow is currently in negotiations to pen the script for the film. Tron 3 is currently being rumoured to begin production in 2014, with a possible 2015 release.
