While it could be argued that Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, which stars Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner, is not exactly a great movie, with a B CinemaScore grade, it does have something to smile about, after topping the US box office this weekend.

There were a number of movies released last week, including Parker and Movie 43, that were expected to have a fairly good run at the box office but it was Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters that came out on top. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters managed to take a very reasonable $19m at the US box office.
Meanwhile, the other two movies mentioned failed to get anywhere near that. Parker did manage to sneak into the top five, taking $7m, while Movie 43 was a huge flop with just $5m, despite having a hugely impressive cast involved.

The rest of the weekends big earners were Mama, which came in second with $12.9m. In third and fourth places were two Oscar nominated movies, Silver Linings Playbook, which was third with $10m and Zero Dark Thirty in fourth with $9.8m and the top five was rounded off by Parker.
