Clash of the Titans actress, Gemma Arterton is set to appear on the big screen next year as Gretel, in the Tommy Wirkola movie Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. Most people now the classic fairytale about the two children who encounter a witch in the woods but this movie has moved on from that. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters has a much darker side to it, as Gemma was happy to talk about, although she did point out that there were also some tender moments too.
Arterton explained, “They had to murder somebody when they are kids! So it’s all about being tough” Gemma then added, “Jeremy and I found within the script moments where we showed the vulnerable side of them. Often in action movies, people are scared to put that in. I think it was important. Just a couple moments, tender moments, when the guard drops, then you understand.”
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters picks up 15 years after the traumatic experience with the witch at the ginger bread house. Now, the brother and sister have become bounty hunters, who track down and kill witches. Gemma Arterton is joined by Jeremy Renner, who plays Hansel in the movie. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is now in post production and is set to be released on March 2, 2012.
