Glee star Naya Rivera has revealed how she went from a period of questioning whether or not she was going to make it in the acting industry. Naya has been acting since she was four years old but found roles began to try up in her late teen years, causing Naya to consider quitting acting altogether.
Rivera told MTV’s This Is How I Made It, “I am half Puerto Rican, a quarter German and a quarter black. That was always a big issue for me - being mixed race - because casting directors tended to be very like, 'Ok, are you Hispanic for this role?' 'Or is she going to be African American?'”
She added, “So, it was really tough and work started to slow down. From the time I was 16 to really up until turning 21, the roles were really, really few and far between. I had people say that I just wasn't a good singer. They didn't know what to do with me; I would never fit in any markets. I almost quit acting altogether.”
Now, at the age of 25, Naya Rivera is currently enjoying on screen success, thanks to her never say die attitude and her continued belief in herself. Naya has been playing Santana Lopez in the musical television series Glee since 2009 and has also landed a solo record deal with Columbia Records.
