Hit TV drama Gossip Girl is about to go in it's sixth season, and show bosses have now announced that sadly, it will be the last.
The hugely popular teen show, based on author Cecily von Ziegesar's book series of the same name, debuted in the U.S. back in 2007, and quickly became a global phenomenon, making stars of its lead cast members, including Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick and Penn Badgley.
But executives at The CW network, where the drama airs in America, have announced the programme will draw to a close after a shortened sixth season hits our screens this autumn, which will consist of just eleven episodes.
In a statement to UsMagazine.com, show bosses revealed that the final storyline will revolve around an unstable Serena van der Woodsen, the New York socialite played by the stunning Blake Lively: "Serena has gone off the grid, beyond even the reach of Gossip Girl. Her friends fear for the worst and hope for the best, but even they can't imagine where they will ultimately find her."

Although little has been said regarding the reasons for the show coming to an end, it is understandable that the cast will want to branch out and take advantage of the opportunities Gossip Girl has provided them with. Blake has recently moved in with new beau, Ryan Reynolds, and the pair are said to be blissfully happy together.
