With Green Day lead, Billie Joe Armstrong coming to terms with his substance abuse problems, the band have cancelled the remainder of their current 2012 tour in North America and postponed the start of their 2013 tour while Armstrong seeks treatment.
Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt said in a statement “Obviously, the timing for this isn’t ideal, but Billie Joe’s well-being is our main concern, we are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can’t wait to see you all again soon."
After a complete public break down on Stage in September at a festival in Las Vegas, the Green Day hit maker headed for help and has been in treatment ever since. The timing couldn’t have been worse for the band at the time as they were promoting their trilogy of albums.
All tickets for the current set of cancelled shows will be refunded from where ticket holders purchased, and the early 2013 shows are currently being rescheduled for later in the year.
