With the Guardians of the Galaxy movie set to be released next year, we thought it would be nice to give a quick run down of the main characters that will feature in the movie. This is mainly for those who have no idea about Guardians of the Galaxy, so those of you who are in the know can feel free to add in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
Two of the characters
Peter Quill/Star-Lord
Peter Quill is the half human, half Spartoi leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy. While in space, he came across the alien Master of the Sun, who gave him the title Star-Lord. Peter Quill has no actual powers to speak of, which is why he relies on his weapons, whether that be the Element Gun or the more recent battle suit and Kree machine guns.

Rocket Raccoon
Rocket Raccoon was a ranger on the planet Halfworld, which was an abondoned colony for the mentally ill. The animals on Halfworld were granted human intelligence and Peter Quill has identified Rocket Raccoon as the most advanced tactical mind in the universe, as well as being more than handy with a firearm.
Groot
Groot is believed to be the only member of his race to still be alive. Coming from the species Flora Colossus, Groot is able to use other wooden plants as a source of food, which helps him to regenerate. Groot has a very limited vocabulary, so it is unlikely that we will get to hear much from him in the movie.
Drax the Destroyer
Drax the Destroyer started life as Arthur Douglas, who was killed in an attack by Thanos. His spirit was then saved by the Titans Mentor and Kronos, who gave him the new physical body of Drax the Destroyer. Drax the Destroyer has great strength, flight and energy blasts, as well as being able to sense Thanos from huge distances.
Gamora
Gamora is one of the most feared women in the galaxy and was a one time associate of Thanos, before turning against him as he tried to destroy the universe. Gamora boasts impressive strength, speed and agility, which make her useful in a number of scenarios, whether that be battle or stealth missions.
The Guardians of the Galaxy movie has already cast Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, while Jason Momoa is in talks to play Drax the Destroyer. There have also been claims that Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey are being lined up to voice the CGI characters Groot and Rocket Raccoon, while Gina Carano, Adrianne Palicki and Olivia Wilde have all been linked to Gamora.
