When it was teased that Gwendoline Christie was going to play the role of Captain Phasma is the movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens and that she would have an important role in the film, we were all very excited to see how it would play out, so we were obviously disappointed at the little screen time that the character actually received. Now though, Gwendoline has been talking about the next instalment in the franchise, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and she has teased that we will see some character growth in Captain Phasma.
Christie explained, "I'm hugely lucky to be classically trained with a method approach. So I do all of my work about who, for me, that character is, so I can go into that situation and everything is justified in logic and fact, like it is for us as humans. Life governs the decision-making process that becomes who we are."
She added, "Rian and I did have long conversations about this character and who she was. And I was utterly delighted in how willing he was to listen to my ideas and really thrilled to exchange them with him and hear his. He really is a master writer and director, and I think we've seen that in the films that he's made but I think that we truly will see that in the depths to which he goes in The Last Jedi."
We truly hope that we will get to see more of Captain Phasma in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and that we will not again be disappointed with the lack of screen time. We look forward to seeing what the latest instalment has to offer and we hope that it is an improvement of the last movie.
