After Microsoft paid Alex Garland $1 million to adapt a screenplay of the hit game Halo and they in turn sold the script to Universal for $10 million, it was certain that a Halo movie would be made in no time. However, producer Peter Jackson is still trying to find someone to helm the project.
Peter Jackson initially wanted Guillermo del Toro to direct the Halo but he declined the offer to instead direct Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Jackson then convinced rookie director Neill Blomkamp to take on the project but after five months of preparation, including props, costumes and filming test footage, the project collapsed.
Blomkamp then went on to make District 9 and although he is still interested in working on Halo, he does not want to direct it after seeing his initial attempt fall apart. So now Peter Jackson is once again on the lookout for a director, who can do justice in turning Halo the game into Halo the movie. One way or another, there will definitely be a Halo movie but when is anyone’s guess. Watch this space.
