The Hangover Part II has been smashing box office records in the US and now it has opened to the tune of £10 million ($16.5 million) at the UK box office. That makes it the second highest debuting film of 2011 behind only Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
It also smashes it’s prequel The Hangover, which only managed to make £3.1 million ($5.1 million) when it hit the screens in 2009. The main reason behind The Hangover Part II’s success is the fact that it opened on a Thursday and also saw impressive sales on the Monday, due to it being a bank holiday.
It’s impressive sales put it top of the UK box office last week pushing Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides down a place to number two. It will be interesting to see if it can hang on to its top spot this week as the eagerly anticipated X-Men: First Class opens this week in the UK.
