British beauty Haley Atwell plays the role of Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and her character shared a brief romance with superhero Captain America on the big screen, during the first Captain America movie. Since then, Steve Rodgers has gone on to kiss her great niece Sharon Carter, which Haley has admitted she is not very happy about.
Atwell joked, "First of all, she'd be turning over in her grave. She'd be like, 'no'. And she'd inject herself with the blue serum and become a supervillain. She'd break out of her coffin and ground [Sharon]. She'd ground her. Then she'd kick Steve's ass as well. I just feel that, you know, I wouldn't want to date my great aunt's guy. It just feels like it crosses an incestuous boundary."
She added, "And Peggy just died. That's even more disrespectful, right? It's like, 'Don't touch that'. You can't tap that! [Peggy would] want the best for [Sharon] and she'd want her dating a good guy. And now, with this whole 'hail Hydra' business, I don't know if Steve's good enough for her. So on all levels, it's just a big fat no."
Despite the concerns of Hayley Atwell, and a number of comic book fans around the world, it does look like the Captain America and Sharon Carter romance will move on to the next level in future films. As for Peggy Carter, the television series Agent Carter has been cancelled over at ABC but Hayley has admitted that she would love to see the show continue over at another network.
