Hayley Atwell not returning for Captain America sequel

  • Hayley Atwell has a new interview with Timeout
  • She confirms that she wont be reprising her role in Captain America 2
  • Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan are set to return
It was originally rumored that Hayley Atwell would be returning in a flashback sequence in ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’, but now it has been confirmed that she won’t be reprising her role as Peggy Carter after all.
Sebastian Stan set to return as Bucky Barnes

Timeout reports [via Coming Soon] that Atwell told them that she won’t be returning, saying, “She won’t, she confirms, be back for the latter’s sequel, which moves the action into the present day.”  Rumors are still present that the main female love interest in ‘Winter Soldier’ will be Sharon Carter, Peggy’s niece.  The list of actresses rumored for the role included Teresa Palmer, Alison Brie, Imogen Poots, Emilia Clarke, and Jessica Brown Findlay.

It makes sense that Atwell won’t return, and it would seem that the director has done away with the idea of having a flashback sequence with Peggy’s character.  However, the rumors concerning Sharon Carter have yet to be confirmed.  As of now, we know that Chris Evans will be reprising his role as Captain America and Sebastian Stan will be returning as Bucky Barnes, and that there will be appearances from the Black Widow [Scarlett Johansson], Nick Fury [Samuel L. Jackson], and Maria Hill [Cobie Smulders].
