There have been a lot of open wheel racing stars to make the move over to NASCAR over the years and it seems that we could have another about to make the switch. Three time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves is currently leading the IndyCar Series Championship but he has admitted that he could be tempted by a switch to NASCAR, if the right offer comes in.
Castroneves explained, "If there is an opportunity, yes but I'd like to try the car first. I remember talking to Rick Mears about it a long time ago and I asked him about the differences and he said that you should try it before making a decision."
He added, "If the opportunity presents itself then certainly, I would love to try it. But right now I have only one thing on my mind and that is trying to win as many races as possible and hopefully bring this championship to [team owner, Roger Penske.]"
If he did make the switch to NASCAR, Helio Castroneves would certainly have his sights set on becoming only the third man ever, to win both the Indy 500 and the Daytona 500. Surely that challenge alone makes the switch tempting.
