It has been quite a difficult few days and weeks for American soccer star Hope Solo recently, as the domestic violence reports emerged, leading to many people to question whether she should be picked for the USA at the World Cup. These reports could not have come at a worse time but, fortunately for Hope, those involved with the US national team have stood by her, giving her all the support she needs.

This support and faith shown in her, has led to Hope Solo equalling the record for the most all-time appearances from a goalkeeper, for the USA women's national soccer team. Hope has been a key player for the USA over the years and she has received a lot of praise and support from her team mates.
Before the match against Nigeria on Tuesday, Becky Sauerbrunn, a central defender for the national team, explained, "I think it is great that we have this history in the U.S. of having great goalkeepers, first with Bri Scurry and now with Hope. I think it is unbelievable that she has played at such a high level for so long so we are all really proud of her. Hopefully we will get her a shutout so it will be a nice one."

Hope Solo has equaled the record
And a shutout is exactly what they did manage to achieve, as USA went on to beat Nigeria 1-0, which left the US national team top of the group, putting them through to the last 16, with Australia in second spot. While the USA looked far from their best against Nigeria, there is still a lot of confidence and hope that they can go on to lift the World Cup trophy. Watch this space.
