How I Met Your Mother was one of the freshest and funniest sitcoms to hit the small screen when it premiered back in 2005. It was the ideal replacement comedy for Friends but had an original idea and theme running through it, which kept fans coming back.

Neil Patrick Harris as Barney
The early seasons of How I Met Your Mother were fantastic. They were funny, they were clever and they introduced us to the character Barney, who was, to put it in his terms, legen ... wait for it ... dary. However, things have fallen off lately and the show has lost its way.
Barney has become overly camp and some of the things that the writers have had him doing lately are simply ridiculous and seem to just be written for Neil Patrick Harris rather than the character himself. It is a shame because Barney had the potential to become a sitcom great.

Josh Radnor as Ted
Then there is Ted (Josh Radnor). As we have known since day one, Ted has been looking for love and the whole series has been about him finding the mother of the title. Unfortunately, in the past few seasons, the writers have made him pathetic and boring. He constantly delivers cheesy lines about love and is rarely funny anymore.
It appears that the writers of How I Met Your Mother have lost their way and they continue to disappoint. If they cannot pull the show back to its best, it is probably a good idea to end the show after this season.
