There has been a lot of discussion about the hit CBS comedy series How I Met Your Mother and whether it will be given a ninth season. Neil Patrick Harris has previously hinted that this, the eighth season, could well be the last and now, co-creator Carter Bays has admitted that the future of the show will be decided soon.

Bays has been speaking to TV Guide, where he explained, “I'd like [the fate of the show] to be resolved before the New Year, but I'm not sure. It's really difficult not knowing, but we're optimistic and confident that we'll know soon.”
He added, “We hope it works out for [season nine] because we love working here and we love this job and we do feel like we have some great stories to tell. But if this is the last season, we'd be able to say it was a well-told story.”

How I Met Your Mother is currently in its eighth season and, while Carter Bays may want to make a ninth season, fans have been a little disappointed with the past few seasons. How I Met Your Mother continues to air on CBS, every Monday evening at 8/7c in the US. Meanwhile, the show airs in the UK on E4.
