Now that we have seen the last performance of Hugh Jackman in the role of Wolverine, in the very impressive movie Logan, the speculation can now begin to mount as to when we will see a new Wolverine hitting the big screen and which actor will take over the role. Well, while we have all loved Hugh playing one of the most loved comic book movie characters, there was almost a point when he was actually replaced.
Director Matthew Vaughn took to the directors chair for the movie X-Men: First Class and he has admitted that he wanted to do another X-Men movie before they moved on to X-Men: Days of Future Past, where they would introduce a young Wolverine, casting a new actor in the role. Then X-Men: Days of Future Past would have rounded off that trilogy, with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and the new Wolverine leading the way.
Vaughn explained, "'I would have done a film in-between where you meet the young Wolverine and a new character, and then 'Days of Future Past' became the young Wolverine and the old Wolverine and just really blow it out."
Unfortunately though, Bryan Singer pushed forward with X-Men: Days of Future Past, which forced Matthew to scrap his idea. It would certainly have been interesting to see who would have been cast as that young Wolverine and how he whole dynamic would have worked. Now though, we wait and see just how long they will wait before replacing Hugh Jackman as Wolverine on the big screen.
