The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder has become one of the biggest names in television, thanks to his portrayal of Damon Salvatore in the hit vampire series. However, Ian did not become an overnight success and has previously appeared in some big shows.

Somerhalder has been appearing in television shows since way back in 1997 and gradually made a name for himself, appearing in a few episodes of shows her and there. Ian then landed the role of Adam Knight in Smallville, where he appeared in 6 episodes in 2004 before moving on.
Ian Somerhalder’s performance were praised by many and then in towards the end of the year, he landed another decent role in another huge television series. On September 22, 2004 Ian Somerhalder made his first appearance as Boone Carlyle in the pilot episode of the hit series Lost.

Lost went on to become one of the most successful television shows around and Ian appeared in 30 episodes as Boone, including the final episode of the show on May 23, 2010. In 2009, Somerhalder debuted in the pilot episode of The Vampire Diaries and the success of the show proved that Ian Somerhalder had truly arrived.
