Irvine Welsh has revealed that the cast to star in the big screen adaptation of his novel Filth, has been confirmed. Irvine announced that Jumper actor Jamie Bell, X-Men: First Class star James McAvoy and Alan Cumming were all set to appear in the movie.
Welsh explained, "That's going to be the main cast. James is going to be main character, Jamie is going to be Lennox, his kind of sidekick, and Alan is going to be Toal, his boss." He also spoke of his delight and enjoyment at getting to work with Cass director Jon S Baird.
He added, "Jon and I hit it off and became good friends. I've been trying to Filth made with different producers and directors for years. Jon did a revised screenplay which was absolutely brilliant. He's captured and kept the essence of the main protagonist but he's done a lot of interesting things with it as well. He's kind of rendered it very, very cinematic and it's going to make a great film with that cast."
Filth is currently in the early stages of pre production and is expected to begin shooting in January of next year. The movie is likely to be released in the UK sometime next year, with an exact date not yet announced, at time of writing.
