Papiss Cisse polarises opinion amongst Newcastle fans. Some view him as the next Alan Shearer whilst others view him as an expensive misfit. Judging the striker's ability and future prospects seem tricky, as at times, the Senegalise striker has been sublime and others he has been desolate.
This season is definitely his worst for Newcastle since joining in 2012 from SC Freiburg. Cisse has played 14 games, but has only scored one goal, and has managed none in the Premier League. However, Newcastle has played well this season, and Cisse has often acted as a creative foli to his more prolific striker partner Loic Remy, who is on loan from Marseille. Cisse may not be scoring, but he is at least offering something to the team and getting on well with his team mates.
This wasn't always the case. Papiss Cisse and former strike partner Demba Ba were barely on speaking terms, similar to the Andy Cole and Teddy Sheringham situation years back. This didn't stop Cisse scoring 13 goals in his first 14 games for the club, including some quite spectacular strikes.
The reason he has not found the net very often could be due to Newcastle's change of playing style. Remy is now the targetman, not Papiss Cisse, who is playing a role similar to what Shola Ameobi does to Newcastle.
